Hello and welcome to my website. Whether you are looking for counselling, just browsing out of curiosity or want to find out more about what I offer, welcome. The next few pages give you details on the Counselling services I offer, details on my approach and how to get in touch with me.

Why consider counselling?

Life is stressful. You may have a lot on your mind and no where  to go to talk about it. You may have difficult choices to make and want a non-judgmental, safe environment to talk it through it in. Anxiety, loss, grief and life events may have left you lost, overcome and finding it difficulty to cope.

Counselling provides a safe space and a confidential professional relationship where you can discuss these things. Counselling doesn’t seek to provide advice but aims to help you make your own decisions. Finding strategies that work for you in your circumstances and increasing your awareness of understanding of your situation are key aims of counselling. Counselling works as a process that requires time and patience to see changes.

My approach

My approach is based on person centred therapy and depth psychotherapy, using ideas from Jungian therapy. I also use insights from focussing and mindfulness in my work. I aim to offer clients a warm, accepting environment in which we can discuss your concerns. I am able to be compassionate and accept you from a place of non-judgement. I aim to empower you to make decisions and choices for yourself. I will offer suggestions and insights from myself as part of our work together however I will never impose these on you. I am able to meet you wherever you are at in your process with your situation. At present, I work with individual adult clients in my practice.

About me

My name is Ava Ichaporia and I am a trained professional counsellor. I have completed an MA in Counselling from the University of East Anglia in the U.K. This was a rigorous program based on the person centred counselling approach. In order to qualify I saw clients at the counselling service at the University where I continued to see clients post qualification. I have dealt with clients presenting a wide range of issues from depression, anxiety to abuse, grief and relationship problems. I have also worked with people from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and religious identities. My current and further interests are in the field of depth psychology which includes integrating the concepts of Carl Jung into my therapeutic work.

In addition to this training I did a Diploma in Counselling from CYDA Pune, which was in association with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences Mumbai. Prior to becoming a counselling I have volunteered on helplines providing support to students as well as people who are survivors of abuse. I also hold an MSc degree in Environmental Policy from the London School of Economics in the U.K. I have also worked as a researcher in an N.G.O working on gender equality issues.

Currently I work in private practice seeing clients in Mumbai and online. I have conducted workshops and teaching sessions on various aspects of counselling at CYDA Pune and the Nanihi center, Pune.
